Director of Content

Your Role

The Director of Content leads a functional department of 10 online Reporters, Writers, Editors and Producers, providing editorial and quality assurance leadership to client websites. In this role, you will collaborate with Business Unit Directors as well as other departmental Directors (e.g. IT & Marketing) to maximize our clients’ revenue via content & traffic generation, conversion and sales.

In this role, you will report directly to the General Manager of DOM.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise and allocate staff resources across multiple clients and online projects
  • Assist Business Unit Directors and in setting editorial strategy and direction for client websites
  • Collaborate with other Department Directors (e.g. IT & Marketing) to ensure our clients’ key communications objectives are met through content initiatives
  • Manage and ensure style guide is being followed
  • Develop and manage vertical content plans and roadmaps in conjunction with Business Unit Directors
  • Work with IT staff to ensure content is loaded properly and efficiently
  • Develop and enforce client-specific web style-guides to direct and improve content quality
  • Maintain a content matrix to reflect any changes to our clients’ websites
  • Full staff and Content Department responsibility, including:
    • Hiring
    • Department organization
    • Setting salaries/bonuses
    • Employee performance and development
    • Approving vacations

Professional Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of content development or technical publishing experience, including online marketing and website management
  • Minimum 3 years experience in management and execution of major projects with staff responsibility
  • Minimum 2 years experience managing multiple websites
  • Advanced writing and editorial skills including professional working knowledge of contemporary online publishing software applications
  • General understanding of online marketing, including media buys, SEO, affiliate marketing, PPC and web analytics
  • Knowledgeable in WEB 2.0, social media and social networks

Formal Requirements

  • University degree (preferably in journalism, marketing, writing, communication or related)
